Kaizen refers most closely to iterative design. Iterative design is redesigning something over and over again till you achieve a smart balance of traits through a series of trade-offs that will end up creating an easy to use device.
In one of our earlier designs was how we were going to design a pager which signified when a rider could enter the queue to ride the ride. Early on, our pager had a single touchscreen which users could use.
Through iteration we decided it was smarter to go for something more durable due to people being on these rides and the amount of abuse they may take. So we adjusted our design accordingly, making it easier to use in the process.
