Although I rarely recall using it, www.askjeeves.com is a search engine with a very obvious design.
All it contains is an avatar of "Jeeves" and a text box with an "Ask" button. Once you click the button, your search results are returned. From the basic setup, it is very hard to make a mistake or misunderstand the use of the site. It would be simple for someone with no computer experience to use the site.

This is an interesting choice for obvious design because it doesn't assume that you know what an "internet search" is. But everyone knows what it means to ask a person a question.
