Week 3 Blog Josh Roberson
I chose Google for my last assignment. Since this is a search engine, the number one search engine at that, and millions of people all over the world use the application shadowing or contextual inquiry would not really be possible or highly effective. The most effective form of the techniques would most likely be surveys. These could be sent out using Gmail or a random sampling of phone surveys. The surveys would allow you to gauge the satisfaction level among users since the application is already in use. You wont get fine details about how the application is used but will get a higher level idea of how people feel about the application. Like what they like the most, what they like the least, what takes the most time, and so on. This would give you a rough start to your design and from there could develop personas as the development furthered to help you relate to the users and keep you from only thinking about your own perspective.

This is a well-thought out response with some good insights. However, I challenge you to think about the ways in which contextual inquiry or shadowing could be helpful in designing for Google. It could be argued that this would be a good method precisely because Google is used by so many people.
