I would use contextual inquiry for my technique to better understand end user needs. I think observing users in the typical use of the site would provide a good view on what a user may struggle with and what the site may need to add or remove in order to make the user feel more comfortable and in control. I would then take into consideration what the general consensus is on what the site needs or does not need. If these are viable responses, I would redesign accordingly. I chose this technique because I feel it is the best way to get the feedback that is needed in order to provide the user with what they need.
